A Century of Brotherhood in the Nation's Capital

A message from our Chapter President, Chris Bunker

The DC Alpha chapter of Sigma Phi Epsilon was founded at The George Washington University in 1909 and has been succeeding ever since. The chapter continues to fulfill their mission of, "Building Balanced Men," by striving for excellence in the areas of academics, athletics, leadership, and chivalry. The DC Alpha chapter is particularly proud of its constant success in the Pikus Cup, consistently top GPA, and transitioning brothers into professional life. DC Alpha is proud of its Balanced Man Program in which new members are welcomed directly into the fraternity as brothers, not pledges, and enter structured stages of growth throughout their college experience. The few who join our ranks will leave George Washington ready and without a doubt will feel it's damn great to be a SigEp.

Sweetheart Week 2014

For this year's Sweetheart Week, the brothers of the DC Alpha chapter have chosen to adopt the Breast Cancer Research Foundation as our fundraising beneficiary. We are committed to making a difference by utilizing our manpower and enabling members of our community to join us in our efforts. We aim to raise awareness for the fight against breast cancer while making each event fun and memorable. Through hard work and help from our community we hope to make a meaningful impact in curing a disease that has affected so many.

Recruitment

Balanced Man Scholarship

DC Alpha's Balanced Man Scholarship (BMS) was established to recognize GWU’s finest men who exhibit overall excellence. Candidates should embody the model established by SigEp’s Balanced Man Ideal, which encourages a balanced lifestyle of Sound Mind and Sound Body, as prescribed by the ancient Greeks.

By adhering to the ideals of Sound Mind and Sound Body, we feel these young men distinguish themselves as models to be emulated. A further respect for the Fraternity’s core values of Virtue, Diligence, and Brotherly Love will further distinguish exceptional candidates. The BMS will be used to award these fine young men for their outstanding achievements regardless of their decision to join the chapter.

This merit-based award is given based on the areas that are promoted within the Balanced Man Ideal that the Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity strives for: academics, leadership, athletic achievement, and community service.

Alumni

SigEp has a proud history of over 100 years here at The George Washington University. Since our inception in 1909, the DC Alpha chapter of SigEp here at The George Washington University has led Greek Life and has constantly pushed the student experience at our school to new levels. SigEp brothers do not simply blend into the student body at The George Washington University. They stand apart because they are everyday leaders and gentlemen.  Our goal at DC Alpha is to lead a fraternity rich with brotherhood, scholarship, and athletics, all while enjoying the best four years of our lives here in our nation’s capitol.

Fraternity life has many benefits, and a decision to join SigEp now is an investment that will benefit you for the rest of your college career. Joining SigEp will expand your social network across this campus giving you more places to go and more people to meet. I highly encourage you to come out to rush and see for yourself why a SigEp bid is the most coveted on campus.
